In this newsletter, we invite you to celebrate highlights from our last program year and get a first look at our reimagined, student-centered program designed to meet this transformative moment.

Enroot Names Daniel Vidaña as Next Executive Director

The Board of Directors of Enroot is delighted to announce the selection of Daniel Enríquez Vidaña as the organization’s next Executive Director, effective April 7, 2025. In this role, Daniel will lead Enroot’s efforts to empower immigrant youth to achieve academic, career, and personal success through meaningful out-of-school experiences.

As we reflect on the year gone by, we are reminded of the incredible strength and resilience of the young people we serve. Throughout 2024, despite the challenges presented by political and societal changes, our immigrant youth have demonstrated an unwavering determination to succeed. Their stories of perseverance, grit, and hope are a testament to the power of community and the belief that brighter days are ahead. The new academic year has kicked off for Enroot students!

Kicking Off 2024-2025 Academic Year!

We are thrilled to have enrolled almost 150 students so far and more than 90 individuals in our volunteer pipeline to support students. The academic year has just started with student enrollments still trickling in and kicking off student programming. In the 2024-2025 academic year, Enroot anticipates supporting 250-300 students given a rise in immigrant families in our communities and school districts experiencing more student enrollments.

Enroot will provide immigrant students ongoing programming during the academic year through our Explore, Leadership, Emerge, and Pathways to Success Programs offering mentorship, academic tutoring, leadership development, job readiness training, post-secondary preparation, college success support, vocational support, workforce entry, STEM exposure, and social-emotional supports.

The summer was a busy time for us recruiting volunteer mentors to pair with our students this year. We recruited at volunteer engagement events, farmers markets, and colleges. Enroot is always looking to recruit more volunteer mentors to support our students throughout the academic year.

Donate to Support our Programs

Pathways to Success:
A College & Career Readiness Program

Over the summer, Enroot rebranded the College Success Program to better reflect inclusivity and the kinds of support we provide students in the program. The program is now called Pathways to Success: A College & Career Readiness Program, which supports Enroot students as they transition out of high school. Pathways to Success supports high school juniors and seniors as well as Enroot young people pursuing college, vocational, technical, trades, or other continued education and employment for up to four years after high school.

Enroot is collaborating with the Harvard English Department and Harvard’s Mindich Program for Engaged Scholarship. This program partners with various community organizations devoted to education and literacy advocacy. This year the program’s “Literacy Stories” is working with newly arrived immigrant youth in Enroot’s programming at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (CRLS). During this collaboration Professor Deidre Lynch will be working with Enroot CRLS students to create their own literacy narratives. Just before Thanksgiving, on November 18th, the semester’s work will culminate in a “Everybody has a Literacy Story, Tell Us Yours” recording session. We are thrilled about this collaboration and for the opportunity it brings students.

Our Pathways to Success Program (P2S) is excited to pilot a new job shadowing and career exploration opportunity for students this year. The P2S team has developed a directory of volunteer mentors that are willing to meet with Enroot students for 1:1 meetings for career exploration, informational interviews, and job shadowing opportunities. P2S students are always looking for networking, internship, and career development engagements. We are thrilled to bring this offering to students with the help of our wonderful volunteer cohort ready to support students in any way they can.

Community Support

Enroot depends on our community to support our vital work. We only get 17% of our costs covered by our school systems and governments. Please help us continue this critical work of supporting immigrant students.
