Debbie Klein

Board Member

Debbie has been working with recent immigrant students for over 30 years. She is passionate about educational equity, closing the achievement and opportunity gaps, and every aspect of Enroot’s mission. She recently completed close to a decade of work for Enroot as a Senior Program Associate at Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School. In this capacity, Debbie designed and executed weekly student seminars as well as providing student coaching and case management. She is currently a volunteer mentor for Enroot’s College Success Program and is delighted to be working with a local community college student.

As an undergrad at Cornell University, Debbie studied international relations. At the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, Debbie got her Masters Degree to teach Social Studies, English and ESL to grades 5-12. Before coming to Enroot, Debbie worked at Apple Computer in Prague, as the Director of Education. She worked as a Program Instructor for the Close Up Foundation in Washington DC, teaching high school students about civics and US government, using the city as a classroom. Debbie first worked with Enroot (formerly Cambridge Community Services/City Links) in the 1990s when she was a history teacher in the Bilingual Department at Cambridge Rindge and Latin.  She received a grant from the Cambridge School Department to create the first curriculum for what is now the current Enroot program.

While raising her (now grown) children in Cambridge, Debbie worked as a Family Liaison at the King Open School, doing community engagement and outreach, and served as a board member for several local educational institutions. She has lived in Cambridge for three decades, and can often be found walking around Fresh Pond with her husband and their 97 pound dog.  Debbie is a proud, actively engaged Cantabrigian and is excited to serve on the Enroot Board of Directors.
